2018 ASN Omaha Independence Day Family Party & Fireworks Show (UPDATED)
July 2 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
Please join us for our 2018 Autism Friendly Independence Day celebration! Date has been moved to Monday, July 2.
This event is built specifically for individuals and families with loved ones on the Autism Spectrum. We have heard from many of you that you don’t attend neighborhood barbecues or fireworks displays due to sensory issues. We believe everyone should have the freedom to celebrate the 4th of July in their own special way!
Our family-friendly event will include both indoor and outdoor activities. After dark, we will be hosting a fireworks display that can be viewed from your own lawn chairs under the stars or from your vehicle in the parking lot.
The Autism Society-Omaha Support Network will be providing the main course; we are asking you to bring a side dish, dessert, or a drink to share. We will be hosting food-related contests this year, the dishes voted best side dish and best dessert will win an Amazon Fire Tablet!!
Our indoor activities will include a quiet room with sensory activities, upstairs in the library – away from the crowd. We will also have an open gym for the PreK & Elementary aged crowd with games, LEGOs, Thomas the Train, etc. and a Teen room just for kids aged 12 and up.
Outdoor activities will include basic water play. Please wear appropriate attire (to get wet), bring a towel, and change of clothes. We encourage you to bring your own water guns. Parental supervision during all activities is required.
Fireworks will begin around 9 pm in the upper parking area. Bring lawn chairs for viewing the display. To accommodate noise sensitivities, ASN will provide earplugs or bring your headphones from home. For the safety of all of our participants, NO outside fireworks will be allowed. Our fireworks display will be performed only by our professional fireworks crew in the designated area and only at the designated time. Families will be required to sit and watch from a safe distance from the fireworks as well.
We look forward to celebrating a fun, safe, and autism-friendly Independence Day event with you and your family!
