Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE will sponsor Night to Shine, Prom for Special Needs Kids on February 9, 2018

Night to Shine – A Prom for Teens with Special Needs in Lincoln

The Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE is sponsoring and hosting “Night to Shine”,” an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. The Prom will begin at 3:30 PM on Friday, February 9, 2018 and continue past 9 PM.

More than 500 churches from around the world will come together to host Night to Shine for approximately 90,000 honored guests through the support of 175,000 volunteers!  Christ Lutheran is delighted to have been chosen as one of those churches. They will be hosting 125 honored guests from the Lincoln community for a magical afternoon/evening!

What will the event look like?  It will be very similar to the proms that you have experienced.

Pre-Prom at Christ Lutheran Church

Honored guests will arrive on Friday, February 9 between 3:30 and 5 pm to meet their pre-prom volunteer buddy at registration. Together they will have their hair, make-up and nails done by volunteers. Men get their shoes shined and receive their boutonniere and royal accessories. They will enjoy light snacks, karaoke in Room 211, photography opportunities and meeting characters like the Disney Princesses, Li’l Red and others.

Dinner and Dance at Sesostris Shrine Center

Honored guests will meet their prom buddy and be whisked away via limousine bus to the lovely Sesostris Shrine Center. There they will enter via red carpet complete with cheering volunteer paparazzi. A sit-down dinner will be followed by an amazing dance. Tim Tebow will share how God sees every single one of the participants as Kings and Queens, and the prom buddy will give each participant a tiara or a crown. Dessert follows the crowning.

Post-prom back at Christ Lutheran Church

Honored guests will return to Christ to meet up with their caregivers by 9 pm. They will each receive a framed photo and a bag of swag as they return home, knowing that they are true royalty in Jesus.

How can you help?

We have over 250 volunteer opportunities for ages 10 and up with everything from being a waiter to paparazzi, prom buddy to decoration setup. Each opportunity is unique and VERY important. Brad Wendel

I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska (GO BIG RED) and live there with my wife Mindi and our 5-year old son, Alex. Alex was diagnosed on the Spectrum in the Spring of 2014. Originally non-verbal, Alex has made massive leaps in speech and motor development thanks to local therapists, teachers, assistants and countless recreational and educational activities available to residents of the Omaha area. I promise to work hard and make sure you are aware of everything available to you and your special needs children.
