One of my favorite memes about raising an autistic son

This past year Alex learned to read, write and speak his letters. A massive shift in just 12 months! Now he loves to identify the letters and words in his books. He prefers the alphabet to other toys. Our reader and scholar in the making! I can’t predict what Alex will accomplish in 2018, but I know it will be amazing.

I know I shouldn’t let the judgments and opinions of others direct or guide my thoughts. This meme reminds me not only to never underestimate the potential of my son, but also to recognize and then abandon the thoughts of others. Above all, it reminds me that he is capable of great, great, amazing, glorious things.

I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska (GO BIG RED) and live there with my wife Mindi and our 5-year old son, Alex. Alex was diagnosed on the Spectrum in the Spring of 2014. Originally non-verbal, Alex has made massive leaps in speech and motor development thanks to local therapists, teachers, assistants and countless recreational and educational activities available to residents of the Omaha area. I promise to work hard and make sure you are aware of everything available to you and your special needs children.
