DSES – Parent Session – Special Education/Inclusion/IEPs

February 20, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Down Syndrome Alliance of the Midlands
The Down Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is a monthly educational seminar for families of children with Down syndrome, designed to connect parents with information that will positively impact the education and well-being of their child.
The Parent’s session for February 2018 is entitled: “Inclusion and Least Restrictive Environment: How to make sure your IEP team talks about the issues that matter to you!” by Dr. Brian Herndon
Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
UNO Community Engagement Center Room 231

Knowledge is power. Understanding the IEP gives parents leverage to ensure that they are valuable participants in making decisions for their child. Parents will learn how to ask questions that will help their IEP teams focus on the issues that matter most to them.

Brian Herndon is an educator, advocate, and a parent of a child with special needs. He has nearly 20 years experience working in schools. He has been a building administrator, where he has served as an LEA for hundreds of IEP meetings. He has been a classroom teacher representative for dozens more. Dr. Herndon has been married to his wife, Jenny, for nearly 16 years, and they have four children, one of whom sports an extra 21st chromosome!

Registration will close Monday, February 19th at 10am.

Please contact Leah at janke@dsamidlands.orgif you miss the deadline and would like to attend.

** Childcare is not provided. With the exception of infants, we request that you refrain from bringing children to this event.
